MSI presented its new console, the MSI Claw, during CES 2024and the notebook will use the new processors Intel Meteor Lake with integrated Arc GPU and low power consumption. The competitor of ROG Ally will be launched in two versions, one with the Core Ultra 5 135H and the other with the Core Ultra 7 155Hcosting US$699 and US$799 respectively.

Considering the performance of the Core Ultra 7 165H presented in Intel event in Decemberthe 155H should be more than enough to compete with the company’s Z1 Extreme APUs. ASUS ROG Ally. Therefore, a simpler model makes sense, with the Core Ultra 5 135H to face the non-extreme Z1 version.

Competitor at height

O Canaltech had the opportunity for a brief hands-on with a notebook equipped with Core Ultra 7 165H during Intel AI Everywhere. Playing in FullHD with good graphic quality and above 80 FPS, the battery of the tested model had an estimated autonomy of 3 to 4 hours.

When we bring this reality to an even more compact model and a simpler processor, it is possible to estimate that the autonomy of the MSI Claw is, at least, equivalent or even greater than the two hours of the ROG Ally. It is also worth mentioning that the MSI laptop’s battery is 53 Wh, compared to just 40 Wh on the ASUS model, suggesting an even longer battery life.

The memory configurations of the Ally and Claw are the same, with 16 GB of LPDDR5-6400 memory, but the connectivity of the MSI notebook is superior, already at the Wi-Fi 7 standard, Bluetooth 5.4. In terms of storage, the new laptop also comes out ahead, offering a SSD 512GB NVMe PCIe4 in the version with Core Ultra 5, and 1 TB in the top-of-the-line model, with Core Ultra 7.

MSI also confirmed that the Claw will feature a 7″ screen, FullHD resolution (1920 x 1080) and 120 Hz refresh rate, the same settings as the Ally. Taking into account only what we already know so far — and without having tested the Legion GO, which has not yet been released in Brazil —, the MSI Claw is an excellent competitor in the new portable console market, at least on par with models from ASUS and Lenovo.
