AMD’s A620 motherboards will make room for more affordable AM5 PCs, finally launching tomorrow.
According to the latest information received, AMD and its partners will launch the long-awaited and affordable AM5 motherboard options tomorrow. These motherboards will use the A620 chipset.
AMD’s motherboard partners are optimizing costs so that most options fall below the $100 price point. At present, there are PCB photos of the MSI A620 motherboard exposed, which uses a 6+2+1 VRM design, which is slightly higher than the ASRock A620 leaked a few days ago. The motherboard will come with a proper VRM cooler and will support EXPO DDR5 overclocking with two DDR5 DIMM slots. An 8-pin connector will power the AM5 socket on the motherboard.
In terms of I/O, the motherboard will feature a single PCIe 4.0 x16 and PCIe 4.0 x1 slot. There’s also a Gen 4.0 NVMe slot separate from the CPU lane. Besides that the motherboard will be equipped with some nice I/O such as HDMI, VGA, keyboard PS/2, USB Gen 3.1 and LAN. The motherboard has an EZ Debug LEG for diagnostics. As for pricing, MSI is also pricing this particular model under $90, but we can expect more affordable options.
USB 3.2 Gen 2 will be limited to two on the AMD A620 chipset, compared to six on the B650 series. PCH will get 2 USB 3.1 Gen 2 and keep 6 USB 2.0. Pairing these entry-level motherboards with something like a Ryzen 7000 Non-X CPU or X3D for pure gaming purposes makes for a super affordable yet powerful PC.
