MSI is synonymous with gaming and extends it beyond its graphics cards, motherboards and the Optix gaming monitors. MSI has been presenting powerful gaming laptops for years that make gaming available to everyone on the go and at home, without sacrificing performance. With the fastest screens, such as the 240 Hz OLED panel on the Raider GE67, MSI also helps you defeat your enemies and boost your gaming experience and performance.

Performance in abundance

Regardless of whether the Titan GT77 or Raider GE67 lands in your shopping cart, MSI offers you the pleasure of 12th generation Intel Core processors, allowing you to enjoy smooth performance during gaming or content creation sessions. The laptops come with up to Intel’s Core i9-12900HX processor, which can be boosted to 150 watts thanks to MSI’s cooling technology. You always get the best possible performance, where allowed within thermal limits: whether it’s heavy 4K gaming sessions or rendering videos in your favorite video editing app.

In terms of graphics power, up to an Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 Ti can be obtained, which should ensure that almost any game can run smoothly and without interruptions, even with the resolution of the displays on the Titan GT77 and Raider GE67. Smooth is not smooth enough in MSI’s booklet, so it offers the OverBoost option on the HX-series laptops. This option temporarily increases the total available power, solving one of the most pressing problems for gaming laptops – maximum power consumption. By (temporarily) increasing this, the graphics card and processor can sustain a heavy load for longer. This results in long-term better performance in gaming, content creation and many other (heavy) workloads.

Desktopvervanger of allrounder

As you can read above, MSI laptops are very similar in terms of Intel processors and Nvidia graphics. However, there are some obvious differences that make the GT77 stand out as a desktop replacement, while the Raider GE67 can be seen more as an all-rounder.

Internally you will find a number of clear differences for this. For example, the Titan GT77 from MSI contains four DIMM slots to expand the working memory and another four NVMe M.2 slots for SSDs. This allows the working memory to be expanded to 128 GB and the storage memory to a maximum of 32 TB. In practice, this means that the laptop can be expanded to such an extent that there is sufficient space to run the heaviest applications smoothly, to be able to store them and also to be able to easily switch between the apps. It also makes the laptop very future-proof: if apps require more RAM or storage in the future, this can simply be added and you can move forward for the time being.

In that respect, the Raider GE67 is more of a traditional laptop, but still with the option to expand the storage and working memory as desired. For this you get two DIMM slots and 2 more NVMe slots. With these expansion options, this laptop can also move forward for the time being and enough games or other software can be stored for the time being. With the progress of SSDs, especially in terms of capacity, this will only become more accessible in the future and you are assured of sufficient storage and working memory in a more handy housing in the coming years.

Fastest OLED screen ever

As with the upgrade options, both laptops offer some differences when it comes to the display. MSI’s Titan GT77, just like the GT76 it succeeds, has a 17.3-inch screen. This makes the laptop not only the portable desktop replacement in terms of performance, but also contains a screen that can show the most information in games regardless of where you are, which is also supported by the QHD+ resolution that allows even the smallest details. of a game are displayed very sharply. However, MSI also realizes that 17.3 inch laptops are not always easy to carry. On MSI’s Raider GE67 you will therefore find a smaller 15.6 inch screen, but that certainly does not make it the lesser laptop for hardcore gamers.

MSI uses the world’s first 240 Hz OLED panel on its Raider GE67, which produces rich and saturated colors with black that is really black in games and other applications. In addition, the screen with its high refresh rate will ensure that no image from the game is missed, so you can’t help but overwhelm the competition.

The Titan GT77 uses IPS technology; the laptop contains a 120 Hz screen, which is still very fast and allows images of games and other applications to move smoothly without artifacts or stuttering. In terms of speed, it is on par with many desktop gaming screens, again pointing to the link MSI wanted to make between the GT77 and its larger ‘desktop brothers’.

Regardless of which model from the HX series you prefer, MSI offers one certainty: you get a screen with accurate – factory calibrated – colors. Games and other content that appears on the screen will therefore be seen as intended by the designer or developer. If you regularly work with content, you can precisely ‘adjust’ the end result so that it appears on their screen as you have in mind. Bottom line, you can be sure that with both laptops you get screens that are ready for gaming, content creation or the countless other tasks that the laptops can handle.

Gaming can also be done in style

If you think back to gaming laptops from about two years ago, you see huge beasts. With its Raider GE67, MSI shows that gaming laptops should be able to be used everywhere. The titanium case has a stylistic dark gray finish with a subtle MSI logo. This makes it look, for the most part, like a regular laptop, until you sit in front of it and experience its gaming performance. This means that the laptop can easily be taken to work during the day, while it is ideally suited for gaming sessions in the evenings. If you forget that you are carrying a gaming laptop, you will find the Mystic Light LEDs at the bottom of the laptop to get you completely into the gaming vibe.

On the Titan GT77 we see a futuristic design in which MSI has focused on cooling and the performance of the laptop. MSI has fitted LEDs across the entire cooling system at the rear, emphasizing the immense cooling of the laptop. Not unimportantly, MSI has also equipped this laptop with the industry-leading Cherry MX Ultra Low Switch, each equipped with an LED that can be controlled in SteelSeries’ GG software. This GG software is also used to control the LEDs on the back – in the cooling area. What makes the Titan GT77 unique as a ‘desktop replacement’ is its thin chassis – with a thickness of only 23 mm. This makes it unmistakably a gaming laptop, with the additional design, without it being impossible to take with you.

Is it Titan vs Raider?

With the Titan and Raider, MSI shows that they make gaming laptops for different target groups, each of which has its own purpose with the laptops. Hardcore gamers will feel completely at home on the Titan GT77 with its unbeatable cooling, powerful performance, larger screen and keyboard that most gamers dream of. On the other hand, the Raider GE67 offers exactly what gamers need on-the-go for their gaming experience, without making the laptop stand out too much in the office or in other (work) environments. At the same time, it remains a very powerful laptop with plenty of memory expansion options and an unbeatable 240Hz OLED display.

So it’s not even a Titan versus Raider, but a battle between the requirements you set for your gaming laptop.
