MSI has decided to return to the market the long-forgotten proprietary series of Cyclone video cards. The manufacturer presented the GeForce RTX 4060 model in this version, the cooling system of which refers to video cards of the past and even the decade before.
MSI Cyclone video cards were very popular during the GeForce 400 series. True, that was 13 years ago. Following the GeForce 400, the company released several more Cyclone models within the GeForce GTX 500 and GTX 600 generations, but after that the series was abandoned by the manufacturer. MSI has switched to using multi-fan cooling systems for video cards, even in mid-range models, which the Cyclone series belonged to initially. But, as it turned out, the manufacturer did not forget the series of its iconic accelerators and decided to revive it. Or a huge batch of ancient coolers for video cards was found somewhere and they decided to sell it.
The MSI GeForce RTX 4060 Cyclone model is equipped with the simplest possible cooling system. It consists of an aluminum radiator with two heat pipes, on which two more smaller radiators are placed. It all blows through one large fan in the center. There is also an additional small radiator, which is located on the elements of the video card power subsystem. Since the power consumption of the GeForce RTX 4060 is only 115 W, such a cooling system should (in theory) have no problems dissipating heat from heating elements. The new product is intended for use as part of compact ITX assemblies.
Since the MSI GeForce RTX 4060 Cyclone cooling system does not actually have any casing, the card is devoid of the usual GeForce RTX logo, which is found on most typical GeForce RTX 4060 variants on the side. Instead, the GeForce RTX logo is located on the rear metal protective plate of the graphics card. The latter is painted golden, like some other elements of the cooling system of the new product.
It is noteworthy that the MSI GeForce RTX 4060 Cyclone even claims a slight factory overclocking of the GPU to 2505 MHz. Overclocking settings can be set in the MSI proprietary application. For additional power, the card is equipped with one 8-pin connector.
The MSI GeForce RTX 4060 Cyclone model appeared only on the manufacturer’s Taiwanese website. This could be a hint that the company has no plans to release it in markets other than Asia.
