MSI Claw Console: Performance and Energy Efficiency Comparison with Intel Processors Meteor Lake

The MSI Claw console is built on Intel processors Meteor Lake. The version with Core Ultra 7 155H and Core Ultra 5 135H got into the test. The models differ in the (absence) of 2 large cores and a 200 MHz different maximum clock:

A comparison of gaming performance against an APU-based console has appeared on the BiliBili platform Phoenix (Ryzen Z1 Extreme) even with the same set TDP (which, in the case of the configuration of these consoles, apparently also means the ± limit of consumption).

Maximum TDP (“Max” is different for both devices: 40W for MSI Claw s Meteor Lake a 30W pro Asus ROG Ally s Phoenix. In Shardow of the Tomb Raider he achieves Meteor Lake at maximum 40W TDP lower FPS (49 FPS) than Phoenix at 20W TDP (53 FPS). However, it should be added that Meteor Lake in this game, at maximum TDP, it stays around 35 watts rather than 40 watts (although it doesn’t change much in terms of practically 2x worse energy efficiency).

A bigger issue than overall performance and energy efficiency is in the case Meteor Lake performance and especially frame rate stability at a lower TDP. In Cyberpunk, at 20 watts, performance drops below 20 FPS and while Phoenix it holds even 0.1% minimums above 10 FPS, Meteor Lake gets to 2-3 FPS in both 0.1% and 1% lows.

  • MSI Claw (Core Ultra 7 155H) – 22 990 Kč (Raise)
  • Asus ROG Ally (Ryzen Z1 Extreme) – CZK 16,654 (Bohemia Computers)
