MSC is upgrading internet connections on its ships

Most of MSC’s ships are now connected to the satellite service of the “Starlink” network, which will allow passengers to surf quickly in the rooms and all over the ship, and save costs. The installation of SpaceX’s innovative venture in all ships in the fleet is expected to be completed by May 2024.

The process began in December 2022, after in recent years the company detected a jump in Wi-Fi consumption due to the increase in the number of mobile devices and the various applications used by passengers during cruises. The first ship connected to “Starlink” technology is MSC Magnifica. “Starlink” technology will provide MSC Cruises with navigation that will significantly improve the guest experience and will allow meeting the future demands of passengers, crew and the ship in general. Currently, MSC ships connected to “Starlink” are: Divina, Euribia, Fantasia, Grandiosa, Lirica, Magnifica Meraviglia, Orchestra, Poesia, Preziosa, Seascape, Seashore, Seaside, Seaview and Virtuosa. Next month MSC Opera will also be connected And the MSC World Europa, the rest of the ships (Armonia, Bellissima, Musica, Sinfonia and Splendida) will be connected for the 2024 summer season.

MSC Cruises offers passengers two Internet packages: “Basic Browsing Package” and “Browsing and Streaming Package”, adapted to the number of devices required during the cruise.

Explora Journeys, a luxury cruise brand and the sister company of MSC Cruises, also equips its first luxury ship, EXPLORA I, with the Starlink service. The second ship, EXPLORA II, will be connected to the technology with its maiden voyage in August 2024.
