It was the crew of the whitefish and shrimp trawler MS Kongsfjord that fished up the body in connection with shrimp trawling late on Friday evening.

This gets in Tromsø informed by general manager of Lerøy Havfiske, Eldar Farstad.

– I received a notice between 11 and 24 o’clock yesterday, says Farstad, who explains that the boat is owned by Båtsfjord havfiske in Finnmark, which in turn is owned by Lerøy.

The police confirm that the vessel received a body in the trawl.

– There are several missing persons in the area, but there are several nautical miles out to sea and a large sea area, so there are borders that are crossed here, says operations manager Rune Nilsen at the Troms police district to VG.

The operations manager cannot state a specific number of missing persons.

– Unpleasant

MS Kongsfjord was on the so-called “Hopendypet”, east-west of the island of Hopen, far north in the Barents Sea, when this happened.

The police and the central rescue center in Northern Norway were notified, and the boat with a crew of 20 immediately set course for Hammerfest, where they are expected to arrive on the night of Sunday.

– How was this experienced for the crew?

– It is of course an unpleasant experience, says Farstad, who explains that the police will take care of the dead person when the boat arrives in Hammerfest.

The police take over

– It will probably be the Troms police district that will investigate this further – but nothing more will be done until Monday, says the operations manager, who has no further information about the discovery of the body.

The person’s ID has not been established.
