MEXICO CITY, April 25 (EL UNIVERSAL).- Fans, music lovers, friends and musicians attended the San Diego Music Awards (SDMA) as a big family on Tuesday night at Humphreys Concerts by the bay, in the city of San Diego, after the pandemic delayed this motivating reward for the work of local musicians for months.
The annual awards ceremony is in its 31st edition and its purpose and tradition is to raise funds to donate to the “Guitars for Schools” program of the San Diego Music Foundation.
Local band Mrs. Henry was the big winner at the awards, after in 2021 the group sold out countless performances in different places in San Diego and officially launched the first act of its rock opera.
The 27 categories of these awards cover a wide range of genres such as rock, country, jazz, pop and rap, with awards for best song, album, music video and more.
Musicians must be nominated by members of the city’s music academy to be considered.
This is how Mrs. Henry triumphed in the category of Best Rock Album for “Keep on Rising – Act l: The Sex Sells, Love Drugs, Rock N Roll Society”; her recent album.
During the outdoor event, a total of 28 prizes were awarded. Proceeds will benefit the nonprofit San Diego Music Foundation and Guitars for Schools, a partnership between the foundation and Taylor Guitars that began in 1999.
Mrs. Henry will perform on May 14 at Jardines de México as part of the BeerFest; at Festival City, in Querétaro, on May 28.
