No one can question the loyalty and love of all ethnic groups to our homeland Bulgaria, said Halil Letifov
“I do not understand this nervousness shown by President Radev yesterday,” MRF MP Halil Letifov told BNT of the sharp remarks they exchanged yesterday during consultations on forming a government, the head of state and party leader Mustafa Karadayi. The reason for it was again the issue of citizenship of the caretaker Minister of Economy Kiril Petkov.
The tension started at the KSNS convened by Radev, to which Karadayi asked the question for the first time and even demonstratively left after receiving an answer that this was not among the topics of the meeting.
Yesterday, however, the President was already sharper and said: “I do not think it is very appropriate for you to raise this issue. Being a citizen of the Republic of Bulgaria does not mean just having a passport, but carrying Bulgaria with all your heart. After When I found out, I asked Kiril Petkov who his motherland was: Bulgaria or Canada, to which I received an unequivocal answer: Bulgaria. And you, Mr. Karaday, will you tell me who your motherland is? “. The question was a reference to Karaday’s statement in Turkey that she was his motherland.
“My homeland is Bulgaria. I think all 51 years I have are proof of that,” Karaday said.
“To have doubts about the homeland of Mr. Karaday and all Turks and Muslims is a severe ignorance of the situation of the Bulgarian people themselves. The Bulgarian people overcame together these dark times before 1989. For us, this topic is extremely sensitive and no one can question the loyalty and love of all ethnic groups to our homeland Bulgaria“, Letifov commented today.
When asked why it is important to know whether a minister has dual citizenship, the MRF MP answered that this is due to the law, which explicitly commands and applies to all Bulgarian citizens.
“We have nothing personal to Minister Petkov, it is only a matter of compliance with the law, “he stressed.
The MP added that there is anti-MRF rhetoric not from today and yesterday, but for the last 25 years. However, this anti-MRF rhetoric will not solve the crises, including the political one we see, the MRF MP is convinced.
“If these consultations were at least aimed at producing a renewed dialogue, a chance to form a government, then that chance is thwarted and hopes of forming a government are actually zero. This is the visible result of the political hypocrisy for which we we are talking, “Letifov added.
On the need for Budget actualisation, he explained that the MRF will take an active part in the discussions, as there is definitely a need to review the finances.
“After the commission formed by the National Assembly yesterday, there will be normal work on the budget. But we will sign a blank check and it is not clear where these expenses go – we will not agree,” the MRF representative was categorical.
On the subject of whether it is possible drawing up a cabinet Letifov highlighted three important points: “The need for a regular government to take responsibility and deal with the crises that will intensify; purely mathematically – the constructive element, which at the moment is not very promising and last but not least – if these second consultations were aimed at restoring the dialogue and really looking for this solution, which is important for the country, in fact the result is quite different. “
According to him, the MRF expects to see what the behavior of the parliamentary groups in the National Assembly will be after the roulette wheel is turned.
“Normality in politics is definitely absent – we see a confrontation with hate speech and the establishment of dividing lines in Bulgarian society, which we definitely do not need,” concluded Halil Letifov.
