Mrázek’s figure skaters finished sixth at the American Figure Skating, they have the best in GP – Sport.cz

Last year’s junior world champion, Mrázek, received about three quarters of a point more for the free dance than two weeks ago at the first start of the year in Astana. They were deprived of a larger point advantage by the low assessment of the technical level of the step route and, above all, by a one-point penalty for a lift that was too long. That put them just four hundredths of a point behind their American counterparts Leah Neset and Artem Markelov, the reigning junior champions.

However, the Czech representatives got ahead of two better-ranked couples from rhythmic dance and after eighth and seventh place last year, they recorded their biggest Grand Prix success to date. The next start in the elite series awaits them in two weeks in Angers, France.

“I’m not going to lie, we’re not thrilled with how it turned out. Although to be honest, I am happy with how we did the trip for free. We still don’t know what went wrong where, we have to study it and we will work on it,” said Mrázková in a press release. “I think it was better than the first race two weeks ago there the Astana. So now we will work to make things better in France,” said Mrázek.

Reigning former European champions Fear and Gibson in the free dance surprised at the expense of home favorites Madison Chock and Evan Bates. Although the British lost almost five points to the American world champions in the free dance, they won by 75 hundredths of a point thanks to their lead in the rhythmic dance.

The Figure Skating Grand Prix will continue in a week with Canadian skating, where the best Czech dance couple Natálie and Filip Taschler will present themselves.
