The Corona virus not only attacks the respiratory tract, but is also said to be able to trigger problems in the male penis.
Such is the case of a man in the United States, for example, who has attracted widespread media attention for what he believes to be a side effect of the Corona Virus, namely a shrinking penis size.
In the episode of Slate’s suggestion podcast “How to Do It” that aired on Sunday, January 9, hosts Jessica Stoya and Rich Juzwiak discussed a letter from a listener. He is a 30 year old man who has had a number of problems with his penis due to COVID-19.
In the letter it was written that the man contracted the virus in July 2021 and was hospitalized. After being discharged, he experienced some erectile dysfunction problems.
Shrinks almost 4 cm
According to him, before being exposed to COVID-19 his penis was above average in size. But after being infected with the Corona virus, he felt the size of his penis shrunk by about one and a half inches or 3.81 cm.
Doctors say the shrinkage may be due to blood vessel damage. It is possible that the depreciation is also permanent.
The reason why the penis can shrink
Until now, the relationship between COVID-19 and the reproductive system is still unclear. A number of studies have been conducted to explore the effect of Corona virus infection on reproductive system problems, one of which is erectile dysfunction.
A study at the Miami Miller University School of Medicine in Florida, USA, analyzed the penile tissue of four men who had previously contracted the Corona virus. Two of them underwent surgery for penile prostheses and treated erectile dysfunction.
Researchers found traces of the virus can still be found in the genitals within a few months after Corona virus infection.
Along with these findings, findings published in the World Journal of Men’s Health in July 2021 further convinced researchers that the virus can limit the blood supply to the genitals. At certain times, this condition can trigger difficulty in achieving an erection.
