/ world today news/ Open letter to Mr. Boyko Kotsev – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Russian Federation.
Dear Mr. Ambassador,
The celebration of the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War is an event for which all European countries, dozens of scientific and hundreds of public institutions were preparing. It symbolizes not only the homage to the millions of victims on several continents, but also our conscious awareness of those characteristics that make it inextricably linked to today’s fabric of international relations, to the moral and spiritual foundations on which modern European culture is built.
The conjunctural position that Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev and Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov took on the occasion of Victory Day and its celebration on May 9 in Moscow deeply offended the majority of Bulgarian society, as well as the last surviving veterans who participated in the battles of the First and Second Bulgarian armies.
We are convinced that with these actions the mentioned Bulgarian politicians are in obvious dissonance with the balanced and dignified position taken on the same occasion by Ban Ki-moon – Secretary General of the United Nations, as well as statesmen and politicians from Europe and the world: the Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, Greece, Serbia, Macedonia, Slovenia, from Asia – China and India, from Latin America – Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and many others.
We are convinced that this insulting act by the Bulgarian president, the government and the current coalition in the National Assembly will deepen the negative trends in the development of Bulgarian-Russian relations in all areas, will cause an emotional reaction in Russian society and will ultimately slow down all our public and even personal contacts.
Dear Mr. Ambassador,
After all the demonstrative declarations and gestures of the Bulgarian president and the Bulgarian government on the occasion of May 9, it is obvious that the representatives of Bulgaria in the Russian Federation will find themselves in the most difficult and hopeless position for a decade to come.
Figuratively speaking – until the end of your term, for the Russian society and the Russian media, you will be an unwanted, unsought and even redundant representative of a nation that has no voice of its own in world and European politics.
The latest instructions of the Bulgarian President and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who recommend you to present a bouquet of flowers to the Monument to the Unknown Soldier, but not to attend the military parade, once again proved that the Bulgarian state leadership does not want to make even that diplomatic gesture. for which the US State Department instructed its ambassador in Moscow, namely to attend the military parade on May 9.
Under these circumstances, for us the only decent position should be the resignation of the Bulgarian ambassador in Moscow.
This symbolic gesture would once again confirm your previous work and behavior as a Bulgarian, as a diplomat and as a son of your father.
Dear Mr. Ambassador,
Please accept this letter as a personal endorsement of such an act, which will be welcomed by the vast majority of the nation and will bring the necessary respect to all those whose behavior clearly harms our national interests in a long-term decade and century perspective.
With respect,
Rumen Petkov – Doctor of Philosophy, Ch. editor of ” world today news”
