Mpox ‘Monkey Pox’ Case Found in RI, Here’s How It’s Transmitted

The Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) reported that there were 88 confirmed cases of Mpox or previously had monkeypox or monkeypox on Saturday (17/8/2024).

If we look at the weekly trend of confirmed Mpox cases in Indonesia from 2022 to 2024, the period with the most cases occurred in October 2023. Of the 88 confirmed cases, 87 have recovered .

This virus can also spread from pregnant women to the fetus, or through skin-to-skin contact during childbirth.

To prevent the spread of Mpox, the public is advised to limit contact with suspected or confirmed Mpox. Additionally, clean and disinfect the environment regularly to prevent the pox virus from landing on items you use every day.

Previously, the World Health Organization (WHO) again declared Mpox a global health emergency after an increase in cases in the Congo and countries in Africa. This is the second time that Mpox has been declared a global emergency after its status was raised in May 2023. The increase in cases in Africa is caused by the Clade I mutation At the same time, Mpox cases in Indonesia caused by Clade II.
