Ryan Crouser crossed the 23-meter bar for the first time since 1990. The 28-year-old American pitcher shot 23.01m on the 5th down of a very dense competition (22.44m, 22.59m, 22.20m , trial, 23.01m, 22.86m) during the USATF Throws Festival. It is the fourth performance in history after the 23.12m and 23.10 of Barnes, world record holder, in May 20, 1990, and the 23.06m of the German Ulf Timmermann in 1988.

Crouser, world indoor record holder (22.82m), broke his outdoor record of 10 centimeters and is still approaching the benchmark of Barnes, who tested positive for a steroid a few months after his records. Behind him, Joe Kovacs, who so far held the MPM, has achieved 22.04m.
