Member of Parliament of SDP Timo Magpie announced on Facebook that he resigned from Neste’s stakeholder management board, where he served as vice chairman.

According to Haraka, Neste delayed the meeting of the board of directors for almost a year, i.e. longer than Neste’s board members’ remuneration was increased by 30–40 percent. According to Magpie, at the same time as well Petteri Orpon (kok) the board’s ownership steering gave up Neste’s board membership.

– I don’t feel that Neste takes stakeholders into account in a way that it strongly encourages in its ESG responsibility. Goodbye and goodbye, Magpie ends his update.

The presentation of the increases already earlier

According to Haraka, the board does not have a direct opportunity to influence the remuneration of the board members.

– This was already discussed in the 2015–2019 period, and at that time Neste’s chairman of the board Jorma Eloranta explained very well why, in his opinion, the government’s remuneration had fallen badly behind. If they had been quickly brought to the stakeholders, I would at least have been ready to support the pothole increase, Harakka tells Iltalehte.

According to Haraka, now, according to his interpretation, they did not dare to bring the fee increase to the board of directors.

– That’s why I’m going to oppose it as a shareholder at the general meeting.

Harakka is surprised that during this parliamentary term the executive board has not been called together once.

– At the general meeting, I am also going to propose that such a conclave, which has proven to be obviously useless, be removed from the articles of association.

Thanked previous leaders

Harakka thanks that in his previous term on Neste’s board of directors 2015–2019 Neste’s board chairman Eloranta and the managing directors Matti Lievonen and Peter Vanacker kept in good contact with the state owner.

– The patient owner made it possible for the oil company to switch to biofuels, where Neste achieved the world’s leading position.

Neste’s current CEO is Matti Lehmus and chairman of the board Matti Kähkönen.
