While the number of registered unemployed is increasing, 5,000 harvest helpers and thousands of employees in the food industry, including around 9,000 in meat processing, are being sought, Agriculture Minister Elisabeth Köstinger (ÖVP) said in a press conference at the Federal Chancellery in Vienna on Friday. Köstinger and Minister of Labor Christine Aschbacher (ÖVP) appealed to everyone who has now lost their job, but also to students and people in training, as long as they have no childcare obligations for children or the elderly.
Aschbacher said that 18,000 companies have so far received advice on the new short-time working model that has recently been applied for during the week. As of today, specific requests can be made, and the money should flow as quickly as possible from April 1.
