A member of the “Strong Republic” bloc, MP Melhem Riachi, revealed that “Lebanese Forces Party leader Samir Geagea entrusted him with the task of communicating with the leadership of the Marada Movement.
In an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat, he explained that “meetings take place periodically and monthly between him and MP Tony Franjieh (son of presidential candidate Suleiman Franjieh), and this communication began before the announcement of Franjieh’s candidacy for the presidency.”
He emphasized that “meetings are periodic, but contacts do not stop and take place when necessary, especially to settle relations on the ground between partisans and supporters, especially in areas where supporters of both parties are present.”
He pointed out that “interference occurs when a debate rages between supporters of each party on social media, where differences are settled to prevent incitement to hatred between the two parties.”
The meetings of the two parties are not devoid of touching on political issues about which they differ, and they are wary of going too deep in the event that the discrepancy exceeds the permissible margins. without prejudice to the rules of the game.
And he believed that “political matters are not closed, and it is possible to intersect on specific issues so that we agree on some matters, and sometimes the disagreement is deeper,” and Riachy does not hide the power of the political dispute.
Riachi concluded, “They are opponents in politics, but social relations exist and we are keen on them, just as the deputies of the two blocs often agree on draft laws of concern to the Lebanese in general.”
