The MP for Rimouski, Maïté Blanchette-Vézina, remembers from the last year the teamwork which made it possible to advance numerous issues in her riding.
“We have pursued several issues at the same time in Rimouski. The Cathedral is a good example. For years we have been talking about recognizing the Cathedral and providing it with funding for renovations. We started the work. We are at $1.1 million in financial support for the renovation of the Cathedral,” comments the CAQ MP and Minister of Natural Resources and Forests.
Madame Blanchette-Vézina also talks about housing. “There are things that are coming to fruition and other things that are coming. This is all because we are all working as a team in the same direction. It shows and it gives results and I am very proud to be able to say that.”
Quebec notably increased its contribution by $3.3 million to the Serviloge project aimed at developing housing in the convent of the Sisters of Notre-Dame du Saint-Rosaire.

“We also support La Débrouille in projects as well as UQAR and other partners who have housing projects. We work both with the City of Rimouski and with the Société d’habitation du Québec. There is also the Han-Logement project which comes from a partnership with the FTQ Solidarity Fund. We are really in action all together and in the same direction,” underlines Ms. Blanchette-Vézina.
The main achievements
Among the achievements of which she is most proud, the MP for Rimouski returns to the Serviloge project. “We continue to work with them, but this additional help was really essential for the continuity of the project. »
Maïté Blanchette-Vézina is also proud of the announcements regarding TERFA in Saint-Narcisse-de-Rimouski.
“Their project required additional funding of $2.7 million which we granted. They were victims of inflation. “It’s a great achievement for the revitalization and economic development of the high country.”
The Novarium project is also among the great achievements of 2023 in the riding of Rimouski.
“We also worked very hard to support several social development organizations. The specialized court for sexual violence is another piece of great news,” adds the MP, who does not ignore the success of the Quebec Games and the winning of the 2025 Memorial Cup among the highlights of the last year.
“Events like the Quebec Games and the Memorial Cup show that Rimouski has a power of attraction and a dynamism that is recognized. This places Rimouski as a must in the East

In terms of culture, the MP returns to the mention of the Cathedral as a heritage asset and to the renovation of the Théâtre du Bic. She also highlights support for Festi-Jazz.
Priorities for 2024
Among her priorities for the start of 2024, Ms. Blanchette-Vézina talks about housing. “It’s priority number 1. We will continue to work on economic development. In particular, we have files on the blue economy on which we are working very hard.”
Also acting as Minister of Natural Resources and Forests, Maïté Blanchette-Vézina says she felt this same teamwork during last summer’s historic forest fires.

“It is once again teamwork from SOPFEU and local teams which made it possible to limit the damage both in Nord-du-Québec and in Abitibi, with the Ministry of Public Security, which worked so that we have an overall positive outcome without any deaths. We were able to save our communities. The efforts have borne fruit and we continue to work together.”
Future of the forest
At the national level, Minister Blanchette-Vézina has just launched discussion tables on the future of the forest. “It is a very important economic activity in our region. Modernizing the mining regime is also important.”
