MP for Gironde Bérangère Couillard appointed Secretary of State for Ecology

Barely re-elected, Bérangère Couillard, 35, enters the government. The MP for the 7th constituency of Gironde (Pessac-Gradignan) has been appointed Secretary of State for Ecology to the new Minister for Ecological Transition Christophe Béchu, also Mayor of Angers. She is one of the 41 members of the Borne II government announced this Monday morning by the Elysée.

During Emmanuel Macron’s first term, Bérangère Couillard sat on the Commission for Sustainable Development. In particular, she was co-rapporteur of the Mobility Orientation Law aimed at improving daily travel for French people. The MP for Gironde was also rapporteur for a LREM bill aimed at protecting victims of domestic violence and was a member of the delegation for women’s rights, as well as the High Council for Equality (HCE).

Originally from Rennes, Bérangère Couillard studied in Brittany, Paris and Ireland, and completed a Masters in management in 2011. After working in a fast food restaurant during her studies, she really entered working life in the Paris region, in the food business, before switching to ready-to-wear. She moved to the South West when she became regional director of a big fashion brand.

Elected in 2017 under the colors of La République en Marche, Bérangère Couillard was reappointed on June 19 with 52% of the vote after the second round of the legislative elections.
