MP charges an Army official to 18 years in prison for marijuana trafficking

A military officer was sentenced to 18 years and eight months in prison for trafficking 6.44 kilos of marijuanaan act for which a civilian was also sentenced, whose sentence is 12 years and six months in jail, reported the Public Ministry (MP, Prosecutor’s Office).

The investigation revealed that the Army official and the other man were traveling in a truck that was transporting food for this component of the Armed Forces, when, at a checkpoint of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB, militarized police) in the state of Mérida ( west), were inspected by the military, who found the drug in a bag, after which both subjects were arrested.

The marijuana was distributed in 13 wrappers, covered in synthetic material, added the MP.

Those sentenced will serve their respective sentences in a prison located in Mérida, as established by the judge.

In 2022, the security forces seized a total of 46,958 kilos of drugs in 7,412 procedures, during which they arrested 9,242 people, according to the National Anti-Drug Superintendency (Sunad).

These operations have continued in 2023, when the authorities have seized 2,441 kilos of drugs, at least until February 13, which was achieved through 1,267 procedures, which left at least 1,680 people in custody, the Sunad indicated then. .
