Movistar Arena Celebrates Five Years as a Leading Economic Force in Bogotá’s Entertainment Industry

Movistar Arena, one of the most emblematic event venues in the entertainment industry in Bogotá, is celebrating its fifth anniversary, during which time it has become a driving force for the economy, in one of the most prominent sectors of the GDP: entertainment.

Since October 3, 2018, the date on which the doors of the venue that put Bogotá on the radar of world-class artists such as Paramore, Feid, Karol G, Miley Cyrus, André Riu, among others, the Movistar Arena opened. has contributed more than 445 billion pesos a year to the entertainment sector.

Likewise, since that day, the average participation of international artists has been 63%, a higher rate compared to previous years, when a percentage of 59% was recorded.

Likewise, the popularity and reception of national artists increased by 13% from 2018 to 2022, with an average participation of 41%.

As a result of the above, the Movistar Arena is the first APP in the cultural sector that contributes to more sectors of the economy, such as the tourism and hotel sector, without leaving aside the urban reactivation of the sector.

Since 2019, the entertainment sector increased its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Bogotá to 6%. At the national level, the sector showed 2-digit growth in the national economy (except for the pandemic period), reflecting a constancy in the increase in consumption of this item and in the behavior of the audience. On the other hand, the collection of the top 10 events of 2022 doubled that of the top 10 of 2019. Five of these 10 events were held at the Movistar Arena.

“We were sure that the Movistar Arena would generate a lot of value for the brand. Value in visibility, in experience and interaction with fans, but more importantly in the development of culture and entertainment for the city and the country. It showed that not only can things be done at a very good level, but also on a large scale and with great benefits for the area,” said Fabián Hernández, CEO of Telefónica Movistar Colombia.

By 2024, the Movistar Arena plans to hold between 120 and 130 public events, develop a cashless platform for the convenience of its attendees and elevate the internal consumer experience.
