Moving Film About Bullying and Acceptance Premieres at Children’s Film Festival in Malmö

The film is directed by Eirik Sæter Stordahl and based on the book of the same name written by Iben Akerlie.

The film premiered last autumn and is about the boy Lars, who has Down syndrome. When he changes schools, he gets a new best friend in Amanda. However, the friendship is put to the test as “classmates” create a blog to prank Lars. Amanda allows herself to be pressured into sharing private video images of him because she is afraid of being ridiculed herself.

Barnfonden is a Swedish organization for children’s rights and writes in its explanation that “the film is a moving film about the right to be different, and about having the courage to say sorry”

According to director Stordahl, the film thematizes how difficult it can be to do what you really think is right, and how important it is to find the courage to be yourself.

The Children’s and Youth Film Festival (BUFF) in Malmö has been running since March 9 and ended on Friday.
