A movie Christmas came true for a New York family, spending the night inside the legendary toy store FAO Schwarz, overlooking the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, of access restricted this year due to the pandemic.
The unique experience arose from a collaboration between the well-known toy store founded in 1862 and Airbnb. Thus, FAO Schwarz installed accommodation in their tent, with a living room overlooking the giant tree, as well as a sleeping area and dining table.
The lucky family had free access to the shop, including the giant keyboard made famous by Tom Hanks in the movie “Big” (1988), which earned him his first Oscar nomination.
David Niggli, Marketing Director for FAO Schwarz, called the experience “an incredible holiday treat (…) This is a great place to get away from it all,” he cited NBC News.
Due to current rules, the unidentified family had to prove they reside under one roof in New York City. And Airbnb promised that the space would then be cleaned in accordance with anti-coronavirus protocols.
After closing his famous store south of Central Park, since two years ago FAO Schwarz’s new New York headquarters is located in Rockefeller Center, traditionally the most visited Christmas area in the city.
