FAJAR.CO.ID, MAKASSAR — Acting Governor of South Sulawesi, Bahtiar Baharuddin, shared knowledge regarding the opportunity to become a productive farmer through banana cultivation.
Bahtiar’s speech regarding the banana planting movement can be accessed via live streaming broadcast on the YouTube channel, Sulselprov, Thursday evening (28/9/2023).
“My appeal is for people to listen to YouTube, the opportunity to become productive farmers cultivating bananas for export to 65 countries in the world,” said Bahtiar, Thursday, September 28 2023.
Bahtiar also expressed his dream of making South Sulawesi the number one largest banana producing province in the world.
“Bananas are a fruit that is very close to our culture, the people of South Sulawesi. Almost all of our processed food in South Sulawesi, the basic ingredient is banana. However, there is no banana cultivation as a main source of livelihood,” he said.
Bahtiar explained that the opportunity for banana exports from South Sulawesi was very large. He targets that one billion banana trees can be planted in South Sulawesi, with the required land area being 500 thousand hectares.
“One hectare of land can be planted with two thousand banana trees,” he added.
If calculated, said Bahtiar, 2,000 trees per hectare, the same as 2,000 banana bunches. If multiplied by IDR 100,000, it will produce IDR 200 million per hectare.
“If five hectares are planted, the minimum yield will be IDR 1 billion. The harvest period is 7 – 10 months and you can continue harvesting for at least five years. This is the cheapest price if you buy it from the garden,” he explained.
Previously, the Acting Governor of South Sulawesi, Bahtiar Baharuddin, had launched the Banana Planting Movement. This program is a joint movement, involving various elements of society and the private sector. (selfie/dawn)
