Tehran: a prominent rapper and activist Tumaj Salehi was arrested in Iran. State media report that Salehi was arrested by Iranian security forces while trying to cross the country’s western border. Salehi was then moved to an unknown location.
But the family denied the charges against him. At the time of his arrest, Salehi was in the southwestern region of Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari province, the family said. Salehi’s arrest comes amid the ongoing anti-hijab protests in the country.
Tumaj’s uncle, Eghbal Eghbali, claimed he was the victim of cruel atrocities. The uncle also asked the Iranian people and the international community to come to the scene to save his life.
At the same time, the administration made it clear that Salehi was accused of spreading propaganda against the country. The Iranian news agency also reported that Salehi played an important role in strengthening the anti-hijab movement in the city of Shahinshahr.
After his arrest, a video of Salehi surfaced in which he claimed he had made a mistake and meant nothing of the sort. But activists said this was said with force.
Tumaj Salehi, who took the stage in support of the revolt that broke out in the country after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, is a singer who constantly takes the stage against the government.
