Retired UK postman didn’t expect to capture scene worthy of animated film Ratatouille in his own shed: at night, a mouse was busy putting away the objects lying around on his workbench.
Every morning, 75-year-old Rodney Holbrook woke up to a tidy shed. Clothespins, nuts and bolts had mysteriously disappeared from the messy counter and found themselves stored in their boxes.
Could the cabin be haunted?
To solve the mystery, the amateur wildlife photographer from Powys, Wales, decided to install a night vision camera on his workbench, reports the British media The Guardian.
The footage shows the little rodent dutifully picking up any objects it lays behind.
“It’s been going on for months,” he told the BBC. “I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that the mouse was tidying up.”
Mr. Holbrook even wanted to test the mouse’s strength by leaving out different objects to see if it could lift them. The animal was not discouraged. The mouse was observed carrying cable ties to the bin.
“She moved all sorts of things around in the box, pieces of plastic, nuts and bolts. I don’t bother tidying up now because I know she will take care of it. I leave things out of the box and they are where they belong in the morning. Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, the mouse puts everything away during the night,” he says.
A similar incident occurred in 2019, when a viral video showed a mouse “hoarding” items in a man’s shed near Bristol, also in the United Kingdom.
Steve Mckears told reporters at the time that he thought he was “going crazy” when screws and metal objects kept reappearing in a box containing bird food. A camera also filmed the mouse arranging these items in the container.
