UDINE. Mourning in the world of Italian and Friulian literature in particular: the writer Paolo Maurensig, who was born in Gorizia on March 26, 1943, died.
Maurensig had known success in 1993 with The Lüneburg variant, which tells of a match between two chess masters that ideally extends through the historical events of the Second World War, with the final twist that will reveal the true nature of the players.
The second novel, Canone inverso of 1996, is instead focused on music, in a Central European setting that was the basis for the film version directed by Ricky Tognazzi.
He won the Cortina d’Ampezzo Award in 2016 with the novel Theory of Shadows.

Born in Gorizia in 1943, Paolo Maurensig, after completing his classical studies, moved to Milan, where he began working in the publishing field.
At the same time he cultivated his passion for writing, publishing some short story books (I saggi fiori, All’insegna del Cigno, Ippocampo – Milan). Success comes with the Luneburg Variant, (Adelphi 1993) which turns out to be the literary case of the year.
Following, for the types of Mondadori, Canone Inverso (1996), from which a film directed by Ricky Tognazzi was taken, L’ombra e la meridiana, Venere Lesa (1998), The Scarlet Man (2001) and The guardian of dreams (2003), the gothic novella: Vukovlad, the lord of wolves (Mondadori 2006) and The Flemish lovers (Mondadori, 2007).
For the types of the Morganti publishing house he recently published La Tempesta, the mystery of Giorgione and the novel: The gold of the immortals. Two books were released in 2012: the short essay entitled Golf and the art of orienting oneself with the nose (Mondadori) and The Last Traverse. (Barbera Editore). Also for Mondadori, it is the last historical novel The Archangel of Chess.
