The terrible news about the death of Italian director and producer Amancay Stumpfs (Encarnación, 1995) has left the audiovisual community and, in general, the Paraguayan art world depressed. His short but promising journey through the world of creative work brought great success to his country in just seven fruitful years in areas such as cinema, television, music videos and costume designamong others, as well as in the field of women’s activism and of protect human rights.
Amancay Stumpfs he studied technology in audio-visual media and photography in the city of Edinburgh University Harvestin the Argentine province of Misiones, trained in the field of clothing design at the Malaga Film and Sound School Training SchoolSpain, and completed his training at the renowned San Antonio de los Baños School of Film and Television, Cuba. Among her various aspects, she revealed herself as a right-hander programmer and curator of Paraguayan cinema at film festivals and screenings at regional and international level, and also identified as photographer in analog formats.
In “Río Arriba” (2018), Amancay Stumpfs combined the intervention of old tapes with images recorded in different cities.
