Mourning for former Bundesliga star: Jan Furtok dies aged 62

Great grief for Jan Furtok.

The former Bundesliga striker died at the age of 62 after a long illness. This was announced by his long-time club GKS Katowice. In 2021 it was announced that Furtok Alzheimer’s was sick

“Furtok was the brightest star at GKS Katowice, the top goalscorer in the club’s history and a multiple Polish international,” the club said in a statement. “With GKS he won the Polish Cup, second place from Poland and the Polish national team, he played 36 games and scored 10 goals, among other things, he participated in the 1986 World Cup Mexico.

“His status as a legend is undeniable,” the club said.

From 1988 to 1995 Furtok played in the Bundesliga. The Pole was one of the best strikers in the world HSV– Story. From 1988 to 1993, Furtok burned himself in the hearts of fans not only because of his 51 goals. The mustachioed man also made many friends because of his friendly, adorable nature.

After his time at HSV, Furtok stormed for Eintracht Frankfurt and then returned to his home club Katowice, where he ended his career in 1997.

His home club writes: “The death of Jan Furtok is a great loss for the GKS community, the city of Katowice and all of Polish football. We send our deepest condolences to Jan’s family and loved ones. We share the pain of the family of the deceased. “
