In an interview with Ben sports Turkey after the match, Mourinho went on a tirade against VAR referee Atilla Karaoğlan, who intervened and advised the referee to award Trabzonspor penalties twice.
– We didn’t see him, but he was the referee. The main referee was just a little boy on the pitch, but Atilla Karaoğlan was the real referee, Mourinho said and continued:
– I think I speak for all Fenerbahçe fans when I say that we don’t want him again. We don’t want it because it smells bad. We don’t want him as a VAR referee and we don’t want him as a referee on the pitch, said Mourinho.

Overtime goal
The match ended in dramatic fashion when former Manchester United flop Sofyan Amrabat scored the winning goal 12 minutes into extra time.
When the referee blew for full-time, Mourinho and the Fenerbahçe bench stormed the pitch, before the 61-year-old was stopped by the dry turf as he attempted to identify by slipping on the knees.
The Portuguese were not satisfied with that. The successful coach was also involved in a spat with a Trabzonspor player, before celebrating with a clenched fist at the home fans as he walked off the pitch and was booed by nearly 40,000 spectators at Trabzonspor Stadium.

Giants at the top
Apart from Amrabat, former Premier League profiles Fred and Edin Dzeko also scored for Fenerbahçe. Simon Banza scored the two penalty kicks awarded to Trabzonspor.
Fenerbahçe has 23 points after ten games under Mourinho’s management. Up to arch-rivals Galatasaray, who are the league leaders in Turkey’s top division, there are five points.
Mourinho has coached for, among others, Manchester United and AS Roma. It was in July this year that he joined the Turkish Süper Lig. The 61-year-old has a contract until 2026, according to website Transfermarkt.
