London –
Jose Mourinho used to criticize Luke Shaw all out while still training Manchester United. Now, the England defender has managed to reply to his former manager’s words.
During Mourinho’s training, Shaw didn’t really shine. He was often pushed aside. 2.5 seasons of Mourinho’s regime at Old Trafford, Shaw only appeared 35 times in the Premier League.
The long injury really bothered him. But more than that, Mourinho felt Shaw’s quality was not good enough to implement his strategy. Several times Shaw was the target of criticism during his training by Mourinho.
One of them in 2017. “He (Shaw) has to change the way he thinks about football. We need his technical quality and fantastic physique, but he cannot continue to play with my way of thinking,” said Mourinho, “quoted Bleacher Report.
Not used Mourinho, in fact luck Shaw changed while being trained by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Gradually, the quality of his game that was once praised, which saw him signed by MU at the age of 18 for 37.5 million euros in 2014, returned to appear.

This season, Shaw has scored 1 goal and 6 assists in 39 matches. Note that is the highest as long as he defended MU. Likewise with the number of appearances. He no longer has many injuries.
When MU travel to headquarters Tottenham Hotspur in continued Premier League, Sunday (11/4/2021), Shaw’s game also led the Red Devils to a 3-1 win, thus avenging an embarrassing 1-6 defeat at the start of the season.
Shaw didn’t score this time, but he recorded 1 sweep, 2 successful tackles, 3 successful dribbles, and has a pass accuracy of 94 percent, citing Whoscored data. He also created two key passes.
Overall this season, Shaw has even become the defender who has created the most chances in the Premier League, namely 55 times, citing Squawka data. It is not surprising to see Shaw’s quality who can dribble and push into the penalty box.
In fact, when coached by Mourinho, he never once provided an assist, let alone a goal. It happened in the 2017/18 season. With his scintillating performances this season, his victory over Tottenham Mourinho seemed to emphasize that the Portuguese manager had misjudged Shaw.
