Bright Osayi-Samuel and his Fenerbahce teammates received praise from head coach Jose Mourinho despite their elimination from this year’s UEFA Champions League.
In the Champions League qualifiers on Tuesday, Fenerbahce could only manage a 1-1 draw at home against Lille and were eliminated with an aggregate score of 3-2. The Turkish top club lost the first leg in France 2-1.
Fenerbahce is still in Europe as the club is now moving to the Europa League.
“It’s better if I don’t talk about the penalty,” he said of Kontraspor. “Because if you look at other things that have happened to me recently, only the referee knows why it was a penalty and the VAR knows. I’m proud of my team.”
“I am an honest person. I told my players that I am proud of them, they did everything they could to win. We adapted to many conditions during the game, two balls hit the post, we had many chances. One team deserved to win, but the other team advanced.”
