Roma –
AS Roma successfully advanced to the quarterfinals Europa League. After winning the UEFA Conference League last season, troop Jose Mourinho Smell the chance to win the Europa League?
AS Roma are in the Europa League quarter-finals after getting rid of Spanish representatives, Real Sociedad. A 0-0 draw at Sociedad headquarters in the second leg, Friday (17/3/2023) early morning WIB ensured that Roma would qualify with an aggregate of 2-0.
The Giallorossi successfully protected a 2-0 lead from the first leg at the Olimpico. Pressed throughout the match, Roma threatened three chances on target and one shot hit the crossbar while not recording a single shot on target.
Roma coach Jose Mourinho appreciated the fighting power of his foster children. Limiting the opportunities for the fourth-placed team in the Spanish League and making them stalemate is an achievement in itself for I Lupi.
“Players who work hard. I only contributed a little, but this is the team,” Mourinho told Sky Sport Italia quoted by Football Italia.
“We returned to Rome tired, but proud of this achievement. This courage and sacrifice, Belotti who had a hand operation a few days ago, Pellegrini with 30 stitches in his head, this proves everything.”
“We are not the best team in the world, but we are a solid group of players,” he added.
This qualification gives Roma hope to close the season with a trophy, considering that the chances in Serie A are very slim if not impossible. The experience of winning the UEFA Conference League last season has become capital for Lorenzo Pellegrini et al.
“We have eliminated two top quality opponents, RB Salzburg and Real Sociedad. Now we are in the quarterfinals with many quality teams, we will see later,” continued Mourinho.
Qualifying for the Europa League quarter-finals, AS Roma has the opportunity to face Union St Gilloise, Manchester United, Bayer Leverkusen, Juventus, Feyenoord, Sporting and Sevilla.
