Roma celebrated the success of winning the title in Europe for the first time after beating Feyenoord in the top match of the UEFA Conference League, Thursday (26/5) early morning WIB.
A Nicolo Zaniolo goal in the middle of the first half became Roma’s winner over Feyenoord.
“There are so many things going through my head. So many things at the same time,” said Mourinho, holding back tears at Sky Sport Italia quoted from Daily Mail.
“I’ve been in Rome for 11 months, I realized when I arrived what it meant, they were waiting for this. As I said to the players in the dressing room in Turin, we did what we needed to do, qualify for the Europa League. We had a great job all season,” Mourinho added.
Mourinho said tonight’s victory was very important in history to be recorded.
“It’s not just about work tonight, this is history. We have to write history. We write it,” said Mourinho.
“The UEFA Conference League is a competition we felt we could win from the start, but it got even stronger when the Europa League teams came in, Leicester City, Olympique Marseille and Feyenoord. But we are serious, we could have picked up a few more points in Serie A, but we give a lot to this competition,” Mourinho added.
The former Inter Milan and Manchester United coach also admitted that he did not hesitate to stay as Roma coach.
“Now I will stay, there is no doubt. Even if some rumors arise, I just want to stay at Roma. We have to understand what our owners, who are amazing people, want to do next season, because this is history, but we can build a very strong project with honest professionals.”
“We need to sit down and understand what the plans are for next season. It remains in the history of Roma, but also mine, I was told that only me, Sir Alex and Giovanni Trapattoni won trophies in three different decades. It makes me feel a bit old, but it’s good for my career,” said Mourinho.
