Tuesday evening, a 60-year-old hiker triggered a mountain rescue operation in Vienna-Döbling. She had moved away from an excursion group and had gotten into steep terrain near the Sievering quarry – “to a point where she could neither go forward nor back,” said Daniel Steiner, spokesman for the Viennese professional rescue service.

The person was found unharmed after a search operation, but had to be rescued by the fire brigade with a safety rope.

Shortly before 8:00 p.m., the leader of the hiking group made an emergency call about the missing person, Steiner explained. Numerous emergency services searched for the woman and found her in the Sieveringer Steinbruch/Gspöttgraben area. “Height rescuers set up a safety anchor point and let the person slide down in a rescue tub under a rope safety device,” said fire department spokesman Jürgen Figerl when asked by APA.

According to the rescue service, the 60-year-old was released into home care. According to Steiner, the operation lasted around three hours. From the fire brigade alone, 19 forces with five vehicles – including a height rescuer and an all-terrain vehicle – were deployed, Figerl reported.
