Mountain railway operators discussed the summer season in 5 minutes

“The collegial exchange of experiences among us 15 Carinthian summer mountain railroaders is an essential success factor and serves to make our summer offer even more attractive”, emphasizes Manuel Kapeller-Hopfgartner, Head of the Carinthian Cable Car Group. “In order to set strong impulses for Carinthian summer tourism in the coming year with our product design and our joint marketing, the conference marks the official start of the planning work for summer 2022”, emphasized the chairman of the group, the role of the Carinthian cable car industry as a central summer impulse generator.

Mountain experience and hiking

“We are at the beginning of a summer and autumn season in which Austria and especially Carinthia is very popular with German guests”, quoted Any Basler, Carinthian state spokeswoman for the summer mountain railways, in the context of the conference from a joint study by Österreich Werbung and the cable car industry. “52 percent of Germans willing to travel cite hiking as the main reason for traveling. Mountain experience is very important to them and especially to families with children. At the same time, booking this year is particularly short-term, only one to four weeks before the start of the vacation ”, Basler summarizes the key findings of the study. “The willingness of Germans to travel increases significantly as soon as they are fully immunized by the vaccination and can travel safely,” says Basler, who sees great opportunities, especially in late summer and autumn.

Cooperation with Kärnten Werbung

“In order to set additional marketing impulses for late summer and autumn, a separate campaign is being prepared in cooperation with Kärnten Werbung. We focus on the comfortable, simple mountain experience that we offer as a cable car company as an argument in favor of a Carinthian holiday ”, says Sommerbergbahnen Carinthia spokeswoman Basler.

15 Sommerbergbahnen in Carinthia

The summer offer of the Carinthian cable car industry is impressive: 15 cable car companies with summer operation form the backbone of the Carinthian mountain adventure offer. Six of these companies have been recognized as “Best Austrian Summer Mountain Railways” for their outstanding quality of experience. And five of them have jointly established the nationwide mountain bike offer – Flow Trails Carinthia. “With the joint marketing of the country-wide mountain bike range of the mountain railways, we are at the forefront of Austria. Having all of our flow trails bookable via one booking platform and offering a joint ticket for all five trail destinations is very attractive for mountain bikers, ”emphasizes Paco Wrolich, Bike coordinator of the Kärnten Werbung in the context of the summer mountain railways state conference.

“The cooperation between smaller and larger cable car companies is important in order to further expand our central role for Carinthian summer tourism. The fact that we were able to welcome over a million guests even in the difficult summer of 2020 shows that we are an essential pillar of Carinthian tourism, ”says Section Chairman Kapeller-Hopfgartner.
