Mount Anak Krakatau has risen to standby status, this is an appeal for residents

ATTACKKOMPAS.com – Activity level status Mount Anak Krakatoa increased from Alert level II to Alert Level III as of today, Sunday (4/24/2020).

The increase in the status of GAK activity in the Sunda Strait is due to continuous eruptions.

“The results of visual and instrumental monitoring show an increasingly significant increase in activity and the activity level of Mount Anak Kraktau has been raised from Alert (Level II) to Alert (Level III) starting April 24, 2022, at 18.00 WIB,” said Head of the Geological Agency, Eko Budi Leloni through his written statement, Sunday.

Eko revealed, GAK’s volcanic activity is currently still in a continuous eruption period with a change in the eruption from being predominantly ash, to a strombolian type that produces incandescent lava bursts on April 17, 2022.

Then the incandescent lava ejection occurred again on April 23, 2022 at around 12:19 WIB, it was observed that the lava flowed and entered the sea.

“Estimated seismic energy is currently observed to increase sharply along with the increasing amplitude of continuous tremors and increasing intensity of continuous eruption events,” said Eko.

Appeal for residents

In connection with the increase in the status of GAK, said Budi, the public, visitors, tourists, and climbers are not allowed to approach GAK within a radius of 5 kilometers from the active crater.

“People in the coastal areas of Banten and Lampung Provinces please stay calm and don’t believe in rumors about the eruption of Mount Krakatau which will cause a tsunami,” said Eko.

Eko asked the community to carry out activities as usual by always following the directions of the local BPBD.
