Mount Anak Krakatoa erupted again. The height of the volcanic ash burst from the volcanic eruption in the Sunda Strait reached 800 meters.
The eruption occurred on Sunday (17/4/2022) at 21.15 WIB. The eruption was recorded in the report of the Geological Agency, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
“There was an eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at 21:15 WIB with the height of the ash column being observed at 800 m above the peak (± 957 m above sea level),” the Geological Agency report said as quoted this evening.
In the records of the Geological Agency, observers of the Anak Krakatau Volcano observed a gray to black burst of volcanic ash escaping from the body of Mount Anak Kralatau. The burst is directed towards the southwest of the mountain.
“The ash column was observed to be gray to black with thick intensity towards the southwest. This eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 55 mm and a duration of 40 seconds,” he wrote.
The status of Mount Anak Krakatau is still at level II or alert. With that status, the public or tourists are prohibited from approaching the crater within a radius of 2 km.
“The public or tourists are not allowed to approach the crater within a radius of 2 km from the crater,” he added.
