Simon Pagenaud struggled with a timing issue throughout Sunday’s race at Road America, finishing a disappointing 18th place after a solid qualifying in sixth on Saturday.
At the start, as the peloton approached the first trap corner of Road America, Pagenaud lost several positions before settling in tenth place. He kept his team informed of their pace issues throughout the race, ultimately calling for a fin adjustment in an attempt to improve their straight-line speed.
“Unfortunately, nothing could cure the ailments of his car, despite all the efforts of Pagenaud and the team. The 2016 IndyCar champion crossed the finish line in 18th position, but was able to earn a place in the general classification.
“This is the definition of a horrible day in motorsport” regretted the Frenchman after the arrival. “We must have had a problem during the race. We will analyze to understand what happened.”
“We were very slow in the straight line and it’s a power circuit. So it’s up to us to analyze and understand why we were so slow in the straight line compared to qualifying where we were very fast.”
“This is the positive point for the rest of the season. But obviously we are very disappointed, because there were big points to score, and unfortunately we could not fight. A day to forget. We shoot the page and we focus on Mid-Ohio. “
