Motorola has launched two new flip foldable smartphones in the market: the premium Motorola Razr 40 Ultra and the more affordable Motorola Razr 40. The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra, also called Razr 40+ in the US, is the thinnest foldable smartphone with a “dual-axis tracking” teardrop hinge that allows the phone to close fully shut while measuring only 15.1mm. The phone has the largest cover display of 3.6″ pOLED screen with 1,056 x 1,066px resolution and 413ppi, which supports HDR and 144Hz refresh rate. On the other hand, the vanilla Razr 40 differs from Razr 40 Ultra in terms of its cover display size, internal display size, processor, and battery. It has a smaller cover display of 1.5″, uses Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, and has a larger battery of 4,200mAh with 15.8mm thickness.
Both smartphones have impressive camera features. Razr 40 Ultra has a 12MP 1.4µm main sensor with f/1.5 aperture and OIS, while Razr 40 has a 64MP 0.7µm sensor with f/1.7 aperture and OIS. Both have 13MP ultra-wide cameras, autofocus for macro shots, and a 32MP selfie camera inside.
The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra/Razr+ has been launched in North America for USD 1,000/CAD 1,300. It will be available in Europe for €1,200/£1,050, while the Motorola Razr 40 will cost €800. The Ulta model is already available in Europe and will be launched later this month in North America. According to the pricing, the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra/Razr+ is cheaper than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip4, which is priced at $1,100/€860/£960, and Oppo Find N2 Flip, which is priced at €1,050.
In conclusion, the launch of Motorola Razr 40 Ultra and Motorola Razr 40 offers consumers two options to choose from in the flip foldable smartphone market. The premium Motorola Razr 40 Ultra has impressive specifications, including the thinnest foldable smartphone and the largest cover display, while the more affordable Motorola Razr 40 also has top-class features and an attractive price tag. With the introduction of these two foldable smartphones, Motorola aims to convince consumers to make the jump to foldables and upgrade their old flip phones or consider other models in the market. It will be interesting to see the consumer response to these new foldable smartphones and how they fare in the market.
