Motorola Razr 40 Review: Price, Camera, and Design Impressions

Motorola has really rich experience with clamshells and, thanks to the original generations of the Razr, significantly contributed to the formation of the entire market for phones of this design. The fact that it is still serious about clamshells was also recently confirmed by the presentation of two versions of the latest Razr 40. While the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra until recently offered the flagship Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 processor and a giant 3.6″ external display, the Razr 40 attracts interested parties for a price several thousand crowns lower, but also a higher resolution of the main camera or a 400 mAh larger battery. What are our first impressions?

You will find everything you need in the package

What’s nice about Motorola is that despite modern trends, it maintains the complete contents of the package, and the Razr 40 is no exception in this regard. In the scented box, you can specifically look forward to the smartphone itself, the adapter, USB-C/USB-C cable, but also to the plastic (two-part) case, which eliminates possible scratches and should help even if the device falls to the ground.

In short, the purple Summer Lilac succeeded

If you’re bored with conservative colors like black or dark blue, the Razr 40 definitely won’t disappoint. The phone is available in three shades: white Vanille Cream, green Sage Green and our tested purple Summer Lilac. The purple shade (some would say maybe pink) really worked well, the phone looks fresh and the vegan leather contributes significantly to the cool design, the advantage of which is also a certain grip or the absence of unsightly prints.

In terms of construction, the Razr 40 is a copy of the 40 Ultra model, so the resistance of the joint is the same, the top quality of the processing, but also the fact that the device is most conveniently opened with both hands, not just one. Nothing changes even in terms of quality haptic response or eSIM support. We also appreciate that even with the case on, the device isn’t particularly large and is still comfortable to use.

While the flexible panel remains dimensionally the same and only has a slightly lower refresh rate (144 Hz) compared to the Ultra (up to 165 Hz) on paper, the external display is quite different. However, the 1.5″ diagonal with a resolution of 368 × 194 px is, despite how small this screen is compared to the one on the Ultra model, still usable and provides the user with an overview of notifications, settings in the control center or the possibility of quick access to applications such as voice recorder or weather.
