Motorola Razr 40: A Review of the Compact Foldable Smartphone

Nabízí kompaktní design, dobrý výkon a ‍dostatečnou výbavu.

Motorola Enters the Market with‌ the Razr 40 Foldable Phone

Motorola ⁤has made its entry into the foldable phone market with a bang. While it⁢ hasn’t released a model with a foldable construction yet, the company is ⁢aiming to dominate the market with its compact form factor. Motorola has ⁣a rich experience in this type of device, with its Razr series having several generations of these mobiles.

The ‌Razr 40 is the lightened version among the foldable phones. While ⁣other manufacturers have released their foldable⁤ smartphones one by one, Motorola has decided to offer‌ customers a cheaper alternative alongside the Razr 40 Ultra. Today, we will focus on the Razr 40 and answer the question of whether it makes sense to save ⁤money compared to its better-equipped sibling, and how Motorola fares against ‍other ⁢competitors.

Will I Like the Phone?

Motorola has made an ‌effort to make the Razr 40⁣ likable. Although it is ⁤made⁤ of plastic, it has a pleasant matte⁣ texture and doesn’t ‌look cheap. The frame ‍is made of aluminum and the hinge⁣ is made of steel. The Razr 40 feels comfortable in the hand, ⁣thanks to its small dimensions when folded (88.2 x⁢ 74 x 15.8 mm) and‌ its matte surfaces.

When folded, the phone can easily fit in a small pocket, which is a great advantage for a phone with‍ this construction. The phone⁤ weighs 188 grams, which falls within the usual⁣ range for smartphones. When unfolded, it becomes slightly larger (170.8 x 74 x 7.4 mm) but still remains quite slim.

Just like‍ its more expensive sibling, the Razr 40 comes in three color options: purple, green, and pink. We had the opportunity to test the purple variant, and we really liked it.‍ The phone also features two rear‍ cameras, a fingerprint sensor, and a USB-C connector.

Motorola has also improved the construction, as it no longer has a gap between‌ the halves when folded. However, the phone only meets the IP52 certification. It can handle dust well, but it is not fully waterproof.

As for the hinge on the foldable phone, it gives us a fairly solid impression. While the competition from Samsung may be slightly more precise, it doesn’t seem like the Motorola foldable phone suffers from any⁢ major structural ⁢flaws compared to anyone else. However, this is a question that can ⁣only be answered through long-term testing.

What About ‌the Internal and ⁢External Display?

Regarding the internal display, Motorola⁣ has used the same panel for both of its new models. The ‌only difference is the refresh rate, with the Razr 40 having a great 144 Hz refresh rate, while its Ultra sibling takes it to the extreme with 165 Hz. Otherwise, the foldable screens are the same.

This ⁤means that you can expect ‌a pOLED display with a diagonal of ⁣6.9 inches, Full HD+ resolution, and a slightly elongated aspect ratio of 22:9. There is also a front notch for the selfie camera (32 MP). The foldable screen is soft ⁢and has a crease at the folding point, making‌ it more susceptible to damage compared to regular glass. Therefore, you should always close the phone when not in use.

As for the small external display, ⁢it primarily serves for basic notifications, checking the time and date,⁤ or a preview for the camera. It is only a 1.5-inch OLED display with a ⁤resolution of 194 x 368 pixels. It is ⁣clear that it is not intended for advanced interaction with the phone, but rather ⁤for checking the essentials without having to open the phone.

What About the Specs?

The phone is powered by a new mid-range processor, the‌ Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. It is accompanied by 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage space. The Motorola Razr 40 belongs to the more⁣ powerful smartphones, so you don’t have to worry that⁢ it won’t be ⁢able to handle any game or application. However, if performance is crucial for you, there are certainly more powerful options available.

We praise the mentioned memory configuration, as 256 GB is sufficient space that you won’t easily fill up. However, keep in mind that this is the final physical storage value, as the‌ phone does not⁢ have a memory card slot. Instead, ⁢you⁢ have space for two‌ SIM cards.

In terms of connectivity, we have already mentioned the presence of a USB-C port, but there is no headphone jack. Additionally, the phone supports 5G and NFC for mobile ‍payments, as well as Bluetooth 5.3. As mentioned before, the fingerprint ‍reader is located in the bottom button for activating the display.

Motorola has been offering a clean version of the Android operating system ⁤for some time now, and here it comes with version‌ 13. There are only a few typical software features⁣ from Motorola, such as ⁢the gesture controls for activating the camera and flashlight. The phone has minimal bloatware.

What About the ⁢Battery?

It was quite surprising to find‌ that the Razr ⁣40 has an advantage over its significantly more expensive sibling, the Razr 40 ‌Ultra, in one aspect. It has a larger battery capacity, with ⁢4,200 mAh, making it one of the highest among smartphones.⁢ The processor doesn’t drain the battery as much, but the 144 Hz display does, although you don’t have to keep it on all the time due to the small external display vibrating for notifications.

The battery life is slightly above ⁣average for a foldable phone, and it can easily last a ‍day⁢ and a half ‌with moderate usage. While this may not be impressive for regular smartphones, foldable⁤ smartphones usually don’t offer such compromises. Additionally, the ⁤phone supports fast wired charging (30 W, fully charged in an hour) and slow wireless charging (5 W).

How does the battery life of the Razr 40 compare to other foldable phones in the ⁣market?

Ce is a top‌ priority for you, the Razr 40 Ultra, with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, may be a‍ better choice.

In terms of battery life, the Razr 40⁣ packs a 4,000 mAh battery, which is considered sufficient for a full day of use. ‌It also supports fast charging, so‍ you can‌ quickly juice it up when needed.

The camera setup on⁢ the Razr 40 is decent but not exceptional. It features a dual rear camera, with a 64 MP main sensor and a 16 MP ultra-wide-angle lens. The image quality is good, with accurate colors⁤ and plenty of detail. Video recording is also of high ⁤quality, with the ability to shoot in high resolution.

Overall, the Motorola Razr 40 is a solid and⁤ attractive foldable phone. It offers⁣ a compact design, good performance, and sufficient features. It ⁣is suitable for those who are looking for a foldable phone at an affordable price. However, if you prefer better performance and a superior camera, you may have to opt for the more expensive Razr ⁣40 Ultra model.

Motorola is making⁣ a‌ strong entry into the foldable phone market with the Razr 40. Its compact form factor, quality construction, and comfortable handling make it ⁣an interesting alternative for those seeking a compact and affordable foldable phone. However, how it fares against other competitors remains to be seen.
