Long battery life is one of the key aspects when choosing a new phone, but larger dimensions and weight are also associated with an above-average battery capacity. The Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition managed to combine a 6,000 mAh battery with relatively favorable dimensions, and it also has a large 120Hz display and eSIM support. Will she be able to break through among the fierce competition?
After the recently tested Motorola Edge 40 Neo, a more affordable model with a giant 6,000mAh battery also reached the newsroom. At the same time, the new Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition, in addition to the promise of long endurance, also attracts generous storage, 12 GB of RAM or a camera with OIS. How did it perform during our test?

Package contents: case and cable
Although one of the trump cards of this model is the huge battery capacity, charging, or the future owner will have to arrange for a compatible adapter himself. As part of the environmental trend of including only the cable in the package (however, you won’t find even that at the unnamed Japanese manufacturer), we will see only a USB-C/USB-C power and data cable in the box from the G54 Power Edition. Thanks to this, the box is pleasantly compact, the print on it is made with soy ink and it does not contain any plastic packaging materials, which can be definitely praised. Other accessories include, in addition to the legally required manuals and a tool for pulling out the SIM slot, a transparent silicone case.
We liked the included case and USB-C/USB-C cable environmental (small) box
Design processing: it worked perfectly
In the beginning of this review, it was mentioned that larger dimensions are usually a drawback of smartphones with a large battery, but the Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition is a clear exception in this regard. Despite the 6,000mAh battery, it maintains a very reasonable thickness of 8.89 mm, and the remaining dimensions (161.56 x 73.82 mm) are not unnecessarily large either. Together with the weight of 192 grams, it is one of the smallest and lightest smartphones with such a giant battery.
You will also be pleased that the novelty is pleasant to hold in the hand and has a basic IP54 resistance, so it is not afraid of dust or water. The right side is home to the fingerprint reader, which is hidden in the power button. It is easy to feel and there is no need to stretch your thumb in any way. The volume control rocker (or rather a pair of separate buttons) is a bit higher and its feel could be a bit more complicated for users with smaller hands. However, it certainly cannot be called problematic, and overall I am satisfied with the layout of the physical controls. The fingerprint reader itself is fast and reliable enough.

We can also praise the matte design of the back, which quite well imitates glass, but it is plastic (as in the case of the frames). The complete list can also include the haptic response, which is only average, but certainly not offensive for a device with a price of less than 5,000 crowns. One memory card with a maximum capacity of 1 TB + one nanoSIM with the option of adding an eSIM can be inserted into the slot on the left side.
I liked the small dimensions and low weight compared to the battery, comfortable to hold, IP54 resistance, reliable fingerprint reader, eSIM support
Display: 120Hz for enjoyment
The novelty is equipped with a 6.5″ screen with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz, which can be left on automatic or forced to 60/120Hz, so the user has several options. Classic and modified Always-On, on the other hand, are missing, only available the possibility to tap the display (or move the phone), which will light up the screen. For some, the type of display panel is also an important parameter. In this case, it is only an LCD, which, in addition to less pleasing colors, also has a minor ailment in the form of shine through in the area of the frames and “shot”.
However, the transparency is not extremely prominent for such an affordable smartphone, and the traditionally wider chin can easily be forgiven. On the contrary, it is important to highlight the sufficiently fine Full HD+ resolution and, in my experience, sufficient maximum brightness.
We liked the 120Hz refresh rate, which was sufficient. We didn’t like it. Some may miss the classic Always-On
Sound: stereo must not be missing
Motorola bet on the Moto G54 Power Edition to integrate two loud speakers, which is definitely a good thing. You can look forward to (it must be emphasized, within the limits of customs in the given price segment) a decent spatial effect that can amplify Dolby Atmos even more, as well as a decent maximum volume.
Hardware performance: has Dimensity proven itself?
The octa-core processor MediaTek Dimensity 7020 takes care of the performance, accompanied by an above-average 12 GB of memory. Motorola can definitely be praised for deploying a modern 6nm chipset. Although it is not a “monster” in terms of performance, it is absolutely sufficient for an ordinary user. Fast multitasking or playing regular games is not a problem. Although I occasionally noticed moments when the phone needed to “think” for a little while, overall, it is very difficult to find a more powerful smartphone at the given price. Motorola also deserves praise for the above-average 256GB storage (expandable up to a 1TB microSD card).
We liked the sufficiently powerful hardware, generous RAM and storage
Battery life: three days with an overview
Due to the giant battery and modern 6nm chipset, a very long battery life can be achieved with the new product. I averaged around 2.5 to 3 days on a full charge, but with more economical use I believe it would be possible to get to one charge per week, which is great. Thanks to 30W wired charging, it is then possible to top up the energy in about two hours. There is also optimized charging, which should extend the overall life of the battery cell.
We liked the excellent endurance and fast charging
Connectivity: 5G on board
In terms of connectivity, you can rely on 5G support on both SIM cards, Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 5 and, of course, NFC for contactless payment. There is also no shortage of navigation services such as GPS, GLONASS, QZSS, Beidou or Galileo.
We liked the seamless connectivity
Camera: no complaints considering the price
The novelty uses a primary 50 Mpx sensor, an 8 Mpx ultra-wide-angle lens and a 16 Mpx selfie camera. At least when looking at the resolution of the individual sensors, it does not really stand out from the crowd compared to the competition, but it has several advantages. First of all, the primary sensor must be praised for its optical stabilization, which helps when shooting videos, but also when taking pictures in low-light conditions. Motorola deserves the second praise for integrating an ultra-wide-angle lens with automatic focus, which will also serve as a macro. And the third simply for the absence of completely unnecessary 2 Mpx bokeh/macro sensors.
The resulting images correspond more or less to the average in the given price category, where too high demands cannot be placed on the photos. The shots look great in color. If you don’t mind the phone’s tendency to unnecessarily artificially overfocus or perhaps softer images from the ultra-wide-angle lens, there’s not much to complain about. The Moto G54 Power Edition can usually focus correctly (and quickly), you can take macro shots from a distance of approximately 2 to 3 cm, and the photo application itself is intuitive. Video recording is maximum possible in Full HD, but the user can choose between 30 and 60 FPS.

We liked the over-the-ear sensor with OIS ultra-wide-angle lens with AF (macro) considering the price above-average photo equipment We didn’t like the unnecessary digital refocusing
Software: pure Android with Moto gestures
The Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition has arrived on the market with the latest Android 13 and a guarantee of one major update and three years of security patches, which is a solid offer. It is also pleasing that the environment is traditionally more or less pure Android with a few gadgets directly from Motorola. Popular Moto gestures are traditionally among them, with which you can, for example, activate a flashlight by shaking it or rotate a photo application.
I liked the almost pure Android, solid length of software support
Evaluation
The Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition is a very good mobile phone in the price category of around 5 thousand crowns and I would personally recommend it to anyone who wants a mobile phone for this money. The novelty does not lack a giant battery, a large display with sufficient brightness, stereo speakers, or a modern 6nm processor. A pleasant surprise is that it does not disappoint with the photo equipment or software, where at least an update to Android 14 and three years of security patches are promised. The only “disadvantage” for some customers could be the missing adapter, but personally I can’t consider it a minus, because it is an unstoppable trend that can be seen in almost all brands.
Competition
For similar money, the Infinix Note 30 Pro will offer a significantly better display, a 108MP camera, but also support for wireless charging. On the other hand, it lacks the extremely long battery life of the Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition and the three-year guarantee of security patches.

For an additional fee of 1.5 thousand crowns, you can have the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro with a more powerful processor and OLED display or 67W charging. However, the battery capacity is less and so is the storage/RAM size.
