The trifoliate of new products from Motorola is dominated not only by equipment, but also by the appearance of the new Motorola Edge 40 Neo, which for less than 11,000 crowns offers a beautiful 144Hz display, a 5,000mAh battery with fast charging, Ready For support and regular flagship resistance according to IP68. What are our first impressions?
A really stylish design
Already at first glance, it is obvious that the new Motorola Edge 40 Neo is betting a lot on design, which simply and simply succeeded. The tested blue version with a small Pantone badge on the back (where we also learn that this particular shade is called Caneel Bay) looks nice and we think could appeal to both the ladies and mens audience. The leatherette back is a guarantee of a secure grip, thanks to which the phone does not slip even with wet fingers, so it is “safe” to use it even near the pool. Thanks to the IP68 resistance, we wouldn’t be afraid of occasional underwater shots, but it’s good to remember that no smartphone manufacturer will take any heating into account as part of the warranty.
The location of the buttons on the right side, which are just within reach of the thumb and have a pleasant response, also deserve praise. Also, the fingerprint reader, which is of the optical type and has a white backlight, works reliably and is relatively easy to feel, although perhaps it could be a little higher. One of the other aspects that is difficult to describe, but definitely has its share in the premiumness of the device, is the haptic response. In the case of the Motorola Edge 40 Neo, this is very successful and it can be said that it is even better than the average response for such expensive smartphones.
Beautiful display and decent speakers
A big advantage of the Motorola Edge 40 Neo is also a 6.5″ POLED display with the ability to display HDR10+ and a refresh rate of up to 144Hz. The 10-bit screen is not only impressive in terms of specifications, but also in person, future owners can specifically look forward to beautiful color rendering, sufficient brightness for a comfortable use even in bright sunlight or thin frames. These are the same width at the top and bottom and almost imperceptible on the sides thanks to the rounding. The angle of the rounding is just right and helps the comfortable use of gestures.
Also worthy of praise are the stereo speakers (one hiding behind the grill at the bottom, the other at the top in a thin hole for the earphone), which surprised with above-average volume, but also with denser bass, which is often a stumbling block. Dolby Atmos technology is also present, which we recommend turning on, the sound is then a bit more spatial and simply sounds better.
