Motorola introduces a new series of smartphones: the edge 20 pro, edge 20 and edge 20 lite. The two most expensive models have a 144Hz screen, the lite has to make do with a 90Hz panel. The three phones have the same primary 108Mp camera.
The top model of the new edge 20 series is the Motorola edge 20 pro and it gets a Snapdragon 870-soc, 12GB Lpddr5 memory and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The 6.7″ OLED screen has a full HD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 144Hz. The regular edge 20 has the same screen, but a slower Snapdragon 778G-soc, less ram and less storage. The edge 20 lite has to make do with a MediaTek Dimensity 720-soc and the OLED screen of the entry-level model has a refresh rate of 90Hz.
Motorola provides the three edge 20 devices with the same primary camera. It uses a 108Mp sensor of the relatively large 1/1.52″ format. The sensor can combine nine pixels, which should improve performance in low light. This results in 12-megapixel photos. Motorola does not disclose who the sensor manufacturer is. In any case, Samsung makes a sensor with the HM2 that has such specifications.
The edge 20 pro model has a telescopic telephoto camera with 5x ‘optical zoom’, with the regular edge 20 that is 3x. The edge 20 lite does not have a telephoto camera, but it does have an ultra-wide angle camera, just like the two other devices. Motorola provides the phones with Android 11 with, in its own words, little frills. The manufacturer does supply its My UX, containing specific Motorola apps. The devices will receive two OS upgrades and at least two years of security updates.
The Motorola edge 20 pro will be released at the end of August and costs 700 euros. The edge 20 will appear in the same period for 500 euros and the edge 20 lite will follow at the beginning of September for a suggested retail price of 350 euros.
