Motorola E13, G13, G23: Flat design reminiscent of iPhones

At the beginning of the year, Motorola introduced five models at once. The pair of G53 and G73, which already falls into the middle class and we addressed it in this article, completes the trio of cheap models E13, G13 and G23. The new E is low-end with a very low price, the other pair are priced at the border of the lower middle class, but the equipment is rather low-end.

The common element of all novelties is a similar design. The bodies are flat in the front and back, a bit reminiscent of the look current iPhones. The camera module with a pair of main lenses is similar. The exception is the E13, which has a flash instead of one lens, and the G13 and G23 models have three lenses, one of which is significantly smaller. Visually, however, the design fits even with these differences.

No miracles can be expected in the equipment, rather it is a disappointment. Of the five, only the most expensive Motorola G73 has an FHD+ display, the others have HD+ panels, which is to be expected for the cheapest E13, but it is a shame for the G23 and G53 with a price of over 5,000 crowns. At the same time, in previous generations, Motorola put high-resolution AMOLED displays in similarly expensive devices. Not a single new product has one, it’s always an LCD display. All phones have the same 6.5-inch display. If you want bigger or smaller, you have to go elsewhere.

The G13 and G23 are essentially twins. They are the same size and weight and only differ in a few features. Both have stereo speakers, NFC, a headphone jack, a fingerprint reader in the side button, an FM radio or a separate memory card slot. The higher model has two microphones.

The MediaTek Helio G85 processor is also the same. The G23 model will be sold on the Czech market in a solid memory configuration of 8+128 GB. For the cheaper model, the exact specification was not published by the manufacturer, it always has 4 GB of operating memory and 64 or 128 GB of user memory.

Probably the most significant difference is in the camera. Both devices have three sensors. The same main one with a resolution of 50 Mpix and a two-megapixel macro. The Motorola A13 adds a two-megapixel depth-of-field sensor to this, the A23 instead has a wide-angle sensor with an integrated depth-of-field sensor and a 5-megapixel resolution. In the front, the cheaper model has an 8 Mpix camera, the more expensive model has a 16 Mpix sensor.

The third new E13 is a loaded low-end, which corresponds to the equipment. Motorola again used an HD+ LCD panel with a diagonal of 6.5 inches. The processor is Unisoc T606, operating memory 2 or 4 GB and 64 GB space for data. The phone has a slot for memory cards, a headphone jack, but lacks NFC and the manufacturer does not mention a fingerprint reader. Android 13 is here in Go edition. The simple camera has a 13Mpix sensor at the back and a 5Mpix sensor at the front.

All three novelties will go on sale in March. The E13 model will cost CZK 2,899, the G13 model will cost CZK 4,399, and the Motorola G23 will cost CZK 5,599.
