the essentials in brief
- Satellite communication dongle that pairs with the smartphone using Bluetooth
- SOS function with location sharing also possible without a paired phone
- Annual service costs around 60 francs
The MWC 2023 casts its shadow ahead. Motorola has partnered with Bullitt Group to announce the Motorola Defy Satellite Link. The small device, which can be attached to equipment or clothing with a carabiner, enables satellite communication. It allows you to make emergency calls and GPS location without a WiFi or cellular connection.
How does the Motorola Defy Satellite Link work?
The device can be connected to Android or iOS smartphones via Bluetooth and establish a satellite connection via the Bullitt Satellite Messenger. The service allows you to send and receive text messages. Satellite communications are enabled via MediaTek’s embedded 3GPP NTN chip technology. Power is supplied via an integrated 600mAh battery, which should be sufficient for a few weeks of operation.
Emergency calls are also possible without a paired mobile phone
The compact housing of the Motorola Defy Satellite Link has an integrated SOS button and a location localization button. In an emergency, you can ensure more safety during outdoor activities even without a paired phone.
Relatively lavish service price level for the sky communicator
Subscriptions for the Bullitt Satellite Messenger service start at EUR 4.99 per month. Access to emergency call centers via SOS Assist is integrated free of charge in the first year. The device will be available from April and the price starts at 119 euros. A bundle including an annual subscription to the Essentials Messaging Service Plan starts at €169.
