Motorola Defy Satellite Link: Affordable Alternative to iPhone 14’s Satellite Messaging Feature

In February of this year, Motorola announced the Motorola Defy Satellite Link accessory, which allows the user to send messages via satellite. The feature is a more affordable alternative for those looking for the function available on the iPhone 14. With the device, it is possible that Android devices and even older iPhones will be able to send messages via satellite. Sales started at the end of June.

American consumers can buy one for US$ 150, the equivalent of R$ 750.

According to information from the Olhar Digital portal, the tool communicates with the cell phone via Bluetooth.

The product hits the market with features that can attract consumers, such as the 600 mAh battery, which can last up to four days. It has an internal MediaTek MT6825 chip, GPS, buttons to quickly request an emergency call, in addition to being waterproof, provided it is submerged up to 1.5 m for 30 minutes. For all these features to be activated, the user needs to connect the cell phone and use an application that makes it possible to send messages. The function related to texts via satellite is one of the bets of the iPhone 14.

According to the mentioned portal, the services are not completely identical. One of the distinctions is related to the SOS message. On Motorola, the consumer can type any message. This means that the mechanism was not developed specifically for emergency situations.

Different from Apple’s feature, as the message is sent ready for the emergency, without having to write anything.

Feature not available in Brazil

Motorola details that the service is available in the continental US and Europe, but will arrive in Canada and Alaska in September of this year. Furthermore, the company responsible for providing the service is Bullitt Satellite. The process works similarly to a cell phone plan, where the customer needs to subscribe to one of the plans available to use the resource.

The cheapest package costs US$5 and allows you to send up to 30 messages per month. Another point to highlight is that there are no fees charged to trigger emergency services for a year. In the United States, it can be found at major retailers. Now, in Brazil, the product is not available, as there is no information about the availability of something like this in the country.
