A motorist crashed into the Chinese consulate in San Francisco. The police then opened fire on the motorist, who died. The consulate speaks of a “serious threat” to the lives of consulate employees. There were no injuries.
The vehicle entered the lobby of the consulate in the afternoon, police said in a brief news conference. The police and fire brigade quickly arrived en masse. Officers entered the building, made contact with the motorist and a shooting ensued. The driver was injured and died in hospital.

It is not clear whether the motorist deliberately drove into the consulate. It is also not known how many people were inside at the time of the crash.
