Motorist angry with cyclists: two injured after collision

The collision happened this morning on Gilzeweg, when a group of sixteen Belgian cyclists rode on the roadway instead of the adjacent cycle path. According to the police, the motorist was probably irritated by this, after which he honked loudly as the group passed.

Fracture and bruises

When turning back to the right, the driver probably hit the two cyclists, the police spokesman said. According to him, it remains to be seen whether they were actually hit.

A 72-year-old man was taken to hospital with a fracture, scrapes and bruises. The other cyclist suffered minor injuries. After an investigation, the police have now found out who the owner of the Volkswagen Up is, who was involved in the incident. The police: “He has been invited to make a statement about the incident at the police station.”

Three injured in Zeeland

Things also went wrong in Zeeland. There a group of cyclists was hit in the Zeeland Retranchement. Three people were injured, one of whom was taken to hospital. The driver of the car probably had too much to drink, police confirm.

The collision happened just before 10 a.m. on the Oude Zeedijk. The police cannot yet say how large the group of cyclists was or what exactly happened. The driver had to go to the police station. The car has been towed away.
